We are pleased to announce the appointment of Natasha Kirienko as the new Associate Editor at G3.
Natasha Kirienko
Associate Editor
Natasha Kirienko is an Associate Professor at Rice University. Her research focuses on the broad cellular roles of mitochondria, whose dysfunction is increasingly recognized as a key contributor in a wide variety of diseases, and may be a crucial determinant of aging. Dr. Kirienko received her PhD at the University of Wyoming, where she used Caenorhabditis elegans as model for research on cancer and stress responses. During her postdoc at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, Dr. Kirienko continued working with C. elegans but turned toward a new research area, host-pathogen interactions, using high-throughput approaches to discover new treatments for bacterial infection. The Kirienko lab focuses on three questions, using C. elegans and cell culture models: 1) How are mitochondria involved in host-microbe or host-pathogen relationships? 2) How are mitochondria surveilled? 3) How can mitochondrial homeostasis be leveraged to treat disease, including cancer and neurodegenerative diseases?
